Franchise Consulting and Academia
One of the most aggravating things that a franchising consultant has to go through is to field calls from students who are writing research papers on Franchising for their schools. Apparently the instructors assign these projects and the business students go out and make contacts in the real world.
One tactic I have found to get rid of these bogus contacts is to simply say that I am too busy and let them know that I know that they are merely writing a paper and are trying to get free information. Here is a typical response that you might try in fact:
Unfortunately, I am extremely busy right now and cannot take on additional consulting presently. I wish you all the success in writing up your research report, Business plan or academic paper on a Fictitious Franchising Operation.
If you are a student writing a paper on
franchising, I recommend that you read the following books:
- Start Small and Finish Big
- Franchising 101
- Grinding it Out
- Trips and Traps in Franchising
- Franchise and Licensing
- Franchising for Smarties
- The Franchise Bible
- The E-Myth
These should also be listed and referenced in your paper in my humble opinion. And to all the Business Academics out there, may I say;
Be well and continued success in the Publish and Perish World of academia and I would just like to say how impressed I am with all the Business Schools in this nation have to offer for the Real Entrepreneurs who make it happen.
That is all for now and I certainly hope if you are a
franchising consultant that I indeed feel your frustrations in having to field all these bogus inquiries.
